Your logic doesn't follow.  A hardcore gamer can easily hate another genre which has its own hardcore players.  For example, MMOs like WoW have tons of hardcore gamers, though MMOs are often hated by hardcore gamers who play FPS titles.

By the way, I think there are no such things as casual and hardcore games. Someone can play Angry Birds for 8 hours every day, and someone can play Halo 3 on multiplayer an hour every week with a couple of friends.

I agree.  I know a woman in her 40s who does nothing but play point-and-click puzzle games on PC.  From what I understand, she plays several hours a day.  That's pretty hardcore.  Relative to the rest of society, hardcore is a term that's assigned to a person's level of interest and dedication in an activity, not the level of the activity itself.  A hardcore sports fan, for instance, or a hardcore film buff.  These are people who deeply entwine themselves with their hobby.

Also, "mid-core" is a goofy, made-up sounding term.  I doubt anyone uses it.  I know for a fact Microsoft uses "core" as an official term relative to gaming.  Core gamers are just that, they're the core fan type that plays traditional console and PC titles as part of their "menu".  They typically play many different games in a year, usually across genres, and are often knowledgeable and involved with the culture of their hobby.  Of course, Microsoft breaks it down with demographics, but that's still highly variable.

Casual is just what it sounds like, it's people who aren't really invested in gaming as a hobby.  The term is also used to define the market which caters to this group.
