I missed the fact that you named PS2. Drakengard is a good M rated Square Enix JRPG/hack and slash. Front Mission 4 is also an excellent game on PS2.
That reminds me, Front Mission Evolved is actually a really cool mech shooter in the 360. I loved it, and you can find it for $10 now.
