So, i was reading the comments of these articles recycling the 70m news and this is what came to me Isn't the more important question how many active consoles of each company there are today ? I mean the 360 was being manufactured for 3 whole years with a reported fail rate of over 50%, people's comments were about how many 360 consoles each of them had bought ! At the end of the day it's all about how many consoles are alive and kicking at this moment.

My point exactly. The first couple of revisions (pre-Jasper) had a 50-100% failure rate. The extended warranty did eventually end, and if your 360 died after that, you had to buy another one. I myself bought two Xbox 360s. However, this only increased the install base by one (because I don't buy two copies of the same game). I personally know several people who have purchased multiple 360s (some before the extended warranty, some ofther it ended). I bet that even in this thread right here there are several members who have bought more than one 360. Since the number of failed PS3s is without doubt smaller than that of 360, I am convinced that at this time the total install base of PS3 is ahead of 360. I'd wager any amount of money on this.

True for me. My brother got a 360 and I got a 360 for 50$ (with 10 games and controller). Both were out of warranty when they both broke on the same day (not even RROD). So thats 4 360s for MS. I also had a PS3 that broke (not YLOD) but it was in warranty and I got a free one within 2 weeks. So thats 1 PS3 for Sony.

4 broken xbox's 1 broken ps3 without the aid of RRoD or YLoD.... what in the world are you doing to the things?
|
Its 2 broken Xbox's. All 3 of the problems had to do with disc reading errors. Never have had a broken system until this generation. All 3 of the problems can be found on youtube so its still a little widespread. Just not as much as RROD and YLOD.
|
oh yeah I know of the disk read errors well with xbox's heard the most common cause of those is using the system vertically rather than horizontally, not had it myself but my system has been flat on its side since day one, slightly harder to sit a wii on top of it if it's vertical :D
|
Lol that does not sound good either, put a phat PS3 on an xbox see what happens :O. Its been a combo of vertical and horizontal for me, so who knows.

atm in my sitting room there is my wifes Elite xbox, my original white 360 and my ps3 slim all stacked on each other.... they've not killed each other yet, we got 2 seperate xbox's just to be able to chill and play different games at the same time. Still tho... waiting for the day my original xbox finally dies so I can upgrade to a slim altho I wonder if mine has gotten so old now it's forgotten how to rrod... hopefully!
