This sounds like a number of excuses for a number of console design oversights. As far as a reason not to use the speaker on the gamepad - you would always have noise - and since both Wii Speak and Microsoft Kinect are able to filter out game sound a very ineffective excuse. Actually Kinect does an excellent job of filtering out game sound - and when I have a friend over and we are both playing - we can both use Kinect for in game chat (I only have one head set). And Kinect works quite well.
And not having a head set in the Controller Pro is either a big mistake or something to keep Microsoft from suing them.
Having to keep an extra controller's batteries charged for in game chat just seems like a big oops.
