The option to have a wireless USB headset would solve all of these problems... can use either the Gamepad or Pro controller without worrying about being tethered to either. It's just a matter of a software update on Nintendo's part to allow 3rd party wireless headsets to be compatible.
Edit: OR... you could just go the route most Wii owners have already gone when playing online games like Mario Kart or Conduit... using PSN/XBL to chat with your buddies ghetto style.
