Gamers? Over-reacting? Why that never happens 
For what its worth I agree with you, but when demand for these features becomes clear, I think Nintendo will try an implement them. They have a Gb of RAM to work with and if it becomes clear that customers want these features, then the implementation costs won't seem so big anymore.
I also wouldn't trust devs to push cross-game chat. It's really not in their best interests considering it's not their platform and the costs/effort is not really worth it for them.
