Introduction

Hey guys, and thank you for reading (or glancing at) my Quarterly Sales Blog. This is my Quarter 2, 2012 end special.

For those unfamiliar with this (and most will be) I joined VGC because I was interested in Video Games sales, particularly the PS3/360 battle. I started making this quartly sales updates to reflect trends in game sales.

What these are, are simply tables listing the best selling video games and consoles. In BOLD are games which have increased their position (e.g. 75Th -> 73rd) from my last edition (usually the last quarter).

What this does is show you what games are selling well with respect to others. It shows you where the latest games (usually bold since new games sell well) are in respect to other games on a sales level, and it shows you how well old games are carrying out.

Most of you will be unfamiliar with my Quarterly updates because I've only posted 1 on VGC in the past. However I have done this type of analysis since January 2008 on GameTrailers. So older editions are here

Q3 2010

GameTrailers Archive

I will keep posting these exclusively on VGC since I have basically abandoned my Gametrailers account. So expect these every quarter.

You may notice this is a Quarter 2 Special and not a Quarter 3 special. This is because I needed to update my Q2 special before making my Q3 special (or else how will I know how well a game has done in that quarter specifically). So since this is a new thing for VGC users, I thought it would be appropriate uploading my Q2 special first and then my Q3 special later. For this edition, and this edition alone, changes in sales and positions are reflected off data for the first half of the year (Dec 31st 2011-June 30th 2012). This is because I forgot to do an update after Q1. However all future updates, and all other past updated are quarterly.

Also, for the Quarter 3 special, I will be showing graphs which show hardware and software sales for the last 3 months (similar to those on the weekly analysis, but this will be for the entire quarter). At the end of the year I will also include annual sales graphs, both from an aligned launch perspective (cool for Wii/PS2), and from a yearly perspective (cool for PS3/360)
Data updated to June 30th, 2012

Enjoy!!

General Information

There are 5 tables. The first table lists every video game selling over 5 million units, on all platforms. The second table lists every current generation video game selling over 3 million units. The third table lists current gen software sales for platforms specifically. The fourth table lists the best selling console’s of all time section, and the fifth table shows regional sales of consoles which have been listed in the VGC weekly sales database at some point (So I still have PS2 data).

Remember bolded games or systems increased in rank since last edition.
