ONM: Back to the touchscreen shooting. Is there a danger that that could be less fluid. Do you have to look down at the controller to shoot?
Matthew Prior: It becomes intuitive. You're right as soon as you do it, you do look down. After a while - it doesn't take long, perhaps two or three matches - you see people shake it and because the net is the size of the screen you'll know where you're touching and after a few games people will stop looking down and get used to it. There is a little bit of a learning curve because it's very new and having a screen in your hand and being able to look at the TV is a different experience.
ONM: The big question. If you has all consoles, which version would you recommend?
Matthew Prior: It's tough. I've got a PS3 and 360 but this really does appeal to me. It adds a different dimension. You can play just on the screen itself - you don't have to play on the TV in the room so that's a nice selling point. It's a fresh take on gaming and it'll be interesting what other companies are going to do with the additional screen.
I think there's an individual choice depending on what type of gamer you are. Lots of people I've spoken to love the management aspect that you can't get on PS3 and 360 but from a gameplay perspective they've got the latest update so it balances and changes depending on what type of gamer you are.
ONM: Presumably FIFA 14 Wii U will have all the extra modes and everything that's in the Xbox and PS3 versions. The potential is there...
Matthew Prior: Yeah the potential is there. The stuff you can do on this, you can't do on the others. This certainly has the advantage moving forward as to what you can do.
Matthew Prior: Mine is the manager mode in that it allows a different perspective on gaming and it's an experience you can't get on 360 or PS3. It allows much more freedom and it's a much more realistic game as you can make decisions and changes as you see in real football. You can do this on 360 and PS3 but no one does because of the pause menu.
Also, the control of every player on the pitch has never been done before. You can drag players around and almost create your own formations. That last minute corner - you can pile everyone forward so it really adds to the FIFA experience. Hopefully it opens the door to a lot more people into the world of FIFA. It changes the playing field.
ONM: There are currently 13 Wii U launch games confirmed in the UK. Why should our readers choose FIFA 13 at launch?
Matthew Prior: It gives you that different experience, it's a new way to play FIFA, it's something you can't get on any other console. It looks beautiful. Visually it matches PS3 and 360 with a couple of improvements. If you want a new way to play football, this is the only place to do that.
ONM: It must be nice that you've got no rivals on Wii U as there isn't a PES game around at the moment
That is true. Are they coming out on Wii U or not? I don't know. We're better than them! [laughs]
