I know VGKing was pretty far off, but I could understand his train of thought. Like I said, Nintendo have a decent amount of work to do. Yes, they've already started with the 3DS, but hand-helds and consoles are two different beasts.

I actually don't doubt that Ninetndo will have a decent online offering that will be much improved over Wii as the list of features is looking quite strong and there are plenty of non-gaming related apps that will interest general consumers. Will it be competitive with current online offerings? That's quite possible but still debatable. As I said, Nintendo will learn a lot more about managing their network infrastructure in the first two years of WiiU then in the entirety of this gen or by comparing current competitors.

Also, I'm still unsure about one thing concerning the HDD. When we download patches, will they have to be downloaded to flash drive? I understand having external drives to download full games, but patches can mean fundamental changes to a game (as can DLC in some cases). Can we use an external drive for patching and if we can, is it a good idea?

And I'd rather not ask a Nintendo fan (or any fan of a particular company) to be honest. Bias tends to creep in no matter what .

Haha, well there's your mistake. I COULD be biased, but I certainly am knowledgeable. And I know that it is hard to debate that there will be any significant lacking of competitive edge in the online service.

Even if the home and portable offerings are different (and I have personally used that argument myself in other contexts), that is an argument that can't be used here, since the considerations are nearly identical. Where it isn't identical is if you are comparing market strategies (which have very different factors).

As for HDD and EHD etc.etc., the e-shop already makes use of DLC, and supports SD cards and the internal memory. It shouldn't be an issue. Probs you'll have to install the DLC on the same EHD as your app is residing in, or in any EHD, as long as the app is residing in built-in memory. Not complex at all.

You shoud listen to me haha, I'm kidding

Lol. I don't doubt your knowledge, but the effect Reggie's bizzare gaze has had on mental state of Nintendo fans has to be questioned

Hopefully it's as simple as you say. I still think patching could potentially be a problem if you have saved games on the hard drive but have to patch externally due to space issues. Would the saved games have to be copied onto the external or could you just leave the external HDD plugged in and everything would be fine? Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Semi-related, but I also have some doubts concerning the speed of USB 2.0 drives; for games that stream from the HDD do you think the USB 2.0 connection will bottleneck the data stream?
