Whats important is the person in real life and their fanboy tendencies are purely on a internet basis. In the real world, they may think like a fanboy, but they must never speak of it.
You can be making lots of money, have a house, serious girlfriend, brand new car, etc........how could you be looked down upon (or at least feel insecure) if you let your fanboy flag fly on the computer a bit?
Now on the other hand, if you have a medial job, are socially awkward, and live in a basement, and your a frequent fanboy on the computer, then you gots issues.
