I gotta ask: who are these people that want to play with the Pro Controller over the Gamepad? Do they really exist or are they merely (one of) the spear point(s) that fanboys use to discount the console in general (up there with grousing about Bayonetta 2 and the state of some ports having full HD and 60fps)*? Cause, seriously, who wants *less* functionality?

*And Nintendo has it primarily to head such criticism off at the pass.

Nintendo is adding the pro controller as a shifter to get the Playstation and Xbox owners to  come to the Wii. The body is similar to what the 360/PS3 owners are used to because Nintendo wants the more serious gaming crowd to take the Wii U seriously. The Wii U sold well commercially but in the gaming community, it wasnt as well recieved.

The controller was not added. It already existed. Up until a few months ago they were still sending devs the Wii Classic Controller Pro. The Wii U Pro controller is just the Wii Classic Controller Pro with a button layout that looks like the U-Pad.

I'm sorry but, Nintendo does not copy bad copies of their own products.

The first controller has the dual shock layout from the PS2, the second is closer in body to the 360. Theres no convincing anyone of this, because the body of the 360 controller and the Wii U pro are dead on similar except for the choice of where the analogs would be. The Wii U's version will come to better use because people who have 360s will feel at home. Wii U pros are secondary. Its called pro for a reason..because their other controllers arent aimed at that end. Their intention is good though that they would like to satisfy that area of the market.
