Nintendo needs to build on Bayonetta 2.

They should pick up Devil's Third (Itagaki's game) as well and lock up Ninja Gaiden 4 (make sure its good this time) while they're at it.

You seem to misunderstand what Nintendo did with Bayonetta. They are publishing the game(helping fund the production and release). They are not buying exslusives.

Bayonetta 2 is exslusive because it is being developed with their money and is thus, partially theirs.

Devil's Third is in the same predicament as Bayonetta 2 -- it has no publisher. It's probably even cheaper for Nintendo to finance because it's a lot further along in development already.

Why not? You cannot gain credibility with hardcore players just by trotting out 1 game.

Bayonetta 2 is a good step for Nintendo. Now they need 4 or 5 more of those at least if they want to be taken remotely seriously by the group of core players who don't care about Mario/Zelda enough to buy a console.

Nintendo has stated they do not buy exslusives, but if a dev approached them then they can work something out. If Itagaki brings it to them, then they would consider it but as it stands, it has only been in developement for the PS3 and 360.

The big problem with Devil's Thirds that the engine they were originally using came from a company that went bankrupt, so they had to start pretty much from scratch with a new engine after 2 years of work. I have no idea what they intend to do with the market on the PS3 and 360 looking like it does now. It probably would be best for them to bring an offer to Nintendo.

Itagaki was also very complimentary about the Wii U as a platform and was trying to get a version of his game on Wii U last year.

Obviously his studio probably could use the help. Like I said, I think it'd be a good fit, these Japanese "alliances" (whatever you want to call them) are a cost effective way for Nintendo to build some traction with core gamers.

When Nintendo says they won't "buy exclusives" what they're saying is really they won't compete with Microsoft in a bidding war for Western exclusives. Since MS seems to be content now to forget about the Japanese market and Sony is in finacial trouble, Nintendo could really clean up be financing a lot of core Japanese content.

It's like an all-you-can-eat buffet, load up on 'em I say. New Mistwalker RPG for Wii U? Do it. Devil's Third for Wii U? Do it. Fatal Frame U? Do it. Ninja Gaiden 4 for Wii U, published by Nintendo? Do it.

I don't think it's a bad philosophy, because so many Japanese studios are hurting right now, Nintendo can probably finance a lot of these projects on the cheap.
