You seem to misunderstand what Nintendo did with Bayonetta. They are publishing the game(helping fund the production and release). They are not buying exslusives.

Bayonetta 2 is exslusive because it is being developed with their money and is thus, partially theirs.

Devil's Third is in the same predicament as Bayonetta 2 -- it has no publisher. It's probably even cheaper for Nintendo to finance because it's a lot further along in development already.

Why not? You cannot gain credibility with hardcore players just by trotting out 1 game.

Bayonetta 2 is a good step for Nintendo. Now they need 4 or 5 more of those at least if they want to be taken remotely seriously by the group of core players who don't care about Mario/Zelda enough to buy a console.
