It was a failure so monumental that the Virtual Boy regularily picked on it at lunch in an attempt to curry favour with the other systems.
As for your general argument that the system should be judged regardless of price, and on what potential it had regardless of whether or not that potential was fulfilled. I disagree. The thing had barely any games and cost a damn fortune. Consequently no one bought it. That's Failure defined.
