Nintendo did well with their conference, much better than their two E3 showings of Wii U. Proof is in the pudding though, their stock jumped 5 points the day after the September conference, whereas it dropped after the E3 event. It also turned a rather obscure game franchise known as Bayonetta into a global trending topic on Twitter.
Retailers like Best Buy and GameStop are sold out of pre-orders and other big retail outlets are drying up fast too. It's going to be crazy trying to find one of these this Christmas IMO.
Comparing Wii U to Apple is silly. Apple is bigger than the entire video game industry combined several times over and the iPhone is probably the most desired consumer brand on the planet right now. Video games are just silly toys to most people (and yes that means you too Playstation and XBox) compared to smartphones, specifically Apple product.
