I find that links and quotes provide for better rebuttals. Don't take my word for it. This is what Mr Iwata had to say on the matter.
“Moreover, regrettably, what we prioritized in order to reach out to the new audience was a bit too far from what we prioritized for those who play games as their hobby. Consequently, we presume some people felt that the Wii was not a game system for them or they were not willing to play with the Wii even though some compelling games had been released.”
This is actual leadership. Owning up to mistakes, and taking responsibility rather then shifting the blame. I know it sounds strange to some people, but it isn't a third party developers job to prop up a platform. It is the job of the manufacturer to attract third party development. It is a manufacturers job to make the platform dynamic enough to support third party software. Nintendo didn't build a machine that served the needs of hobbyists on a technical level, and they didn't produce the software needed to maintain their patronage.
Nintendo has admitted to this on many occasions. They did abandon the core and hardcore community in favor of the casual market. They know that, and everyone else knows it as well. So there isn't much point in lying about it. Especially when they need to convince hobbyists to give them a second chance. They cannot very well do that if they act coy about the problem. They really need people to feel that they have gotten the point.
Seriously it took me all of thirty seconds with a search engine to find that quote. You could of fact checked your thoughts with ease. Well here is the link to the article I pulled the quote from.
