It can't hurt to have it on Wii U.  It can ONLY help.  And that's beneficial enough.

Besides, anybody would want MH on their favorite home console in Japan despite it not being as popular on home consoles.  Japanese gamers bought the shit out of this game on Wii.  Again, not as many units as the PSP or 3DS versions but it still moved systems - which is very beneficial.

Also, don't forget the idea that Wii U "is" a giant DS. 

Many people may look at the Wii U version like the older brother of the 3DS version and won't be differenciating both games so much. I bet that the 3DS touchscreen and the gamepad touchscreen will look identical playing offline.
