I also feel pretty confident that the Wii U won't cost me more than $300 and, as such, will be an easy "day-1" purchase. If only I could pre-order somewhere. This is going to be my Christmas present to myself. |
I wouldn't call the Wii overpriced. If you look at that timeline of Nintendo consoles, you can see the different things that were removed over the years (pack-in title, second controller) to maintain a $199 launch pricepoint. The addition of everything associated with the motion controlls (Wii mote, nunchuk, and sensor), plus the WiFi included would necessitate the console to cost more than what the Gamecube cost at launch. Imagine adding motion controlls at launch for Sony and Microsoft to the cost of their already higher priced consoles due to the more powerful hardware in their systems. If Kinnect had been available for XBox 360 launch, it's launch price would have likely shot up from $399 to $499. I shudder to think of what the price of a PS3 would have been at launch if Move had been incorporated from the start.
