In Europe, I'd say most gamers have never owned a Nintendo home console, at least until Wii. Nintendo handhelds on the other hand were always popular.

The NES and SNES never were popular here, it was PSX that popularised videogames in Europe, hence Nintendo's weakness here compared to the US and Sony's strength.

Personally, I never owned a Nintendo home console, though I new two people who had a N64, including my cousin, so I played it.

False.

NES and SNES were never much popular on the "worst" European countries, for some reason only the wealthiest countries by the time were the ones getting some Nintendo presence, like Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Belgium, France, and maybe that's it.

As for PSX popularising videogames, I'm quite aware of older consoles like Commodores and Ataris being in the memories of my older relatives.

I have an uncle who owns a ZX Spectrum 48K and some high school teachers of mine also mentioned it was the blast back in the time.
