The moderators aren't coders and are not capable of fixing site issues themselves

It's important to think of site admins less like software engineers and more like managers at Arby's, I didn't get the job for any special skill, just staying around longer than most without screwing up in some way or quitting.  Heck I'm not even that involved with VGC directly anymore, but Brett doesn't update these tags often because they aren't that meaningful in the grand scheme of things.
