first of all i don't really believe that, i don't believe a game like the witcher 2 which got very often pirated got pirated like 30 million times or more (no clue how many bought it). and even if, that doesn't mean that they would have sold that instead, i think if pirating wouldn't be possible sales would be higher but not by much.

as long as you can still make money with that as developer, you shouldn't avoid the market (like benvtrigger would do as developer). if you don't make money with it anymore, you should.

maybe these high numbers are real if you count india, china, south american countries and such but almost none of them would buy the game instead without the possibility to pirate.

one more probem is, we still don't have many f2p games, if we will have 20x as much as we have nowadays, do developers think they all will still get as much customers as they have right now with only a few f2p games on the market so people donät have a lot of different games to choose?
