How do you get a 'non-free' email address?

Is that a NeoGAF requirement?  I was thinking that so I went to there to register but it just says enter an email address.

It certainly used to be.

The idea is that you can't create alt accounts and escape bans/cause havoc. You can see the motivation behind it, but it's still a pretty stupid policy.
