| SaviorX said: One, the market has expanded too wildly. As far as gaming has gone, its userbase expands with every generation. I'm not sure if one gen contracted or not, but if it did, it was before the 80s. |
the only possible time it contracted was from the sucess of the 2600 to the mess that followed, however consoles released in a steady stream from 77 to 83 so its hard to call it a generation
roughly, listed consoles only
2600 gen somewhere around 40 million, but confusing as possible to follow
75 million 7800/nes/sms
genesis/snes/tg16 100 million
saturn/playstation/64 150 million
ps2/dc/gc/xbox 200 million
current, well we all know it's sitting at around 230 million despite more avenues for video games being available then ever before and considering how every previous wave bled into the next I'm sure it'll reach 250+ million consoles so every gen has enjoyed a significant overall growth
