There is a certain segment of the gaming populace that wants the Wii to falter and fail. Given the Wii's unexpected popularity, they don't express it as directly anymore. They resort to backhanded compliments or in the case of this story you posted Bod have to read in between the lines. Super Smash Bros sold more than Super Mario Sunshine. So why would it be strange for Brawl to sell more than Galaxy did in its first week. Smasb Bros has characters from various franchises, some one that doesn't like Mario may pick up the game for Sonic, Snake, Link, Donkey Kong, etc.
Edit: Kingofvale, the mainsteam media likes the Wii. A good deal of the gaming media does not.
