Sure, but my point is that I'd expect it to be better for Epic to have third-party games on 360/PS3/WiiU using UE3, rather than just on WiiU using UE4. But once the Sony and MS successor consoles are released, UE4 on all three will be the preferred situation. |
Not really as I said licensing UE4 costs more than UE3, the royalty based system is for indie devs and projects that are not expected to gross less than tens of millions. And as the rates are higher for UE4 then they can only gain by having devs use UE4 over 3, and again as I said any game targeting current gen and Wii U would still use UE3 over UE4 anyway even if UE4 was available. Also as big games these days usally have 2 year plus dev cycles many studios are starting work on next gen titles right now, waiting until after PS4 and Xbox 720 are announced that will just mean that they won't be seeing UE4 multiplat games on Wii U until at least a year or more after release. There is already a AAA 3rd party game licensed for UE4 aparently and that was back at E3 after a small invite only demonstration at GDC, I expect there are several studios specing out games for next gen right now considering UE4 and possibly deciding to axe Wii U SKUs right now as they don't want to port the engine themselves.
