Considering that most current gen games are 720p and are nowhere close to actually maxing out what they can show at that resolution, with many games being sub 720p. I don't really see the need for greater than 1080p next gen, and wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of 720p games next gen as they push as much detail into each pixel as possible.
