This whole 'what is a gimmick and what is not' debate is really just an argue of semantics. Like I said way earlier, gimmick has been used in a negative connotation only towards Nintendo. For other companies it is innovation...Pot, meet kettle.

Exactly. I think this whole conversation goes to show that anything Nintendo is a gimmick. Nintendo Video is a gimmick, but DVD-Playback isn't.

Other definition: Anything that's popular or a sensation is a gimmick. (disproven)

There are so many ways the words are twisted to fit an a priori it's almost horrendous.

All this because SS is a prime example of Motion controls put to good use, proved that the technology is still not fully ready and offers an incomplete experiences lets certain gamers think  they can call it a gimmick.

These people don't understand what they are saying and are just using the biases to think over things.

A proper way to say it would be:

Skyward Sword took motions controls to a whole new level, applying the tech to most of link's actions from swordfighting, shield defense, bomb throwing and remote-controlled items. This goes hand in hand with other zeldas which made unique use of new hardware features on a Nintendo system (the DS for the boomerang using touch controls).

Sadly, the technology is not fully mature, so there were a few cases where the motion controls made the experience a little awkward and left a sour taste. Also, in certain cases it felt a little out of place to use motion controls to control on screen movements such as the bird flying and whatnot.

Also, being used to traditional controls, it took some getting used to the new input to on-screen reaction delay, as compared to button controls. In that sense, it also made the experience difficult. However, with the right mindset, we could get a richer experiences by changing our expectations and appreciating the benefits of motion controls.

Ultimately, this is a good try, and motion controls have much potential, but sadly the experience wasn't complete.

End of comments. Where's the use of the word gimmick? Nowhere. Needed? Not anywhere.
