No, he never ignores the differences, and doesn't equate them, and nor do I.
He's just saying "Haters gonna hater, doubters gonna doubt".
The Wii had its challenges, but look at how it turned out. In other words, all he's saying is "Trust us, you were wrong last time, you're probably wrong this time".
