Sony's first party was always great, just highly underrated because they were drowning in a sea of third party from the very beginning. Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Crash Bandicoot (at one time), Hot Shots Golf, Coolboarders, Starhawk, Dark Cloud, Twisted Metal, Ico, Sotc, God of War and the list goes on and on and on.

During the time of the PS2 it increased its offerings, yes with the later IPs you're mentioning.

Legend of Dragoon and Legend of Legaia many of us remember hearing about and seeing, even though we didn't all own a Playstation. These games got the love, but that's not why peeps bought the Playstation to begin with. Coolboarders, Hot Shots Golf, same thing these are not system sellers. Not even Twisted Metal.

People mostly bought the Playstations thanks to 3rd party games, and very very few 1st party games (the ones that sold the most, Crash and GT).

Without 3rd parties, it was a no-go for Playstation.

Sony never commercially pushed their titles out in everyones face becasue they always had so many. Sony's first party is finally getting love because Microsoft made deals to get all the third party Sony had rounded up under them as well. Sony already had a major list of beloved titles before the PS3, Microsoft just made it that much easier for those who cared to notice. Back last gen no one cared what was first party or third. Microsofts dependence on third party is rather what has made people so interested in where the games come from since the majority of their top titles are not from under them and havent been even since last gen.

It's finally getting love because it deserves it, as it did for Gran Turismo, that was a great game that revolutionized gaming thanks to Sony. But that was in 1998, 4 years after the Playstation was released. Microsoft is a speck in all of this, the games remained multi-plats, so I don't buy the arg.

SEGA was one of my favorite companies, but you can even see it in their titles today, the worlds are generic and not carefully planned. Something that would pass in the 90's but definitely not with the passing of the millenium. Sega had first party for every genre and they made Nintendo look weak in that respect as well.

Nintendo had games in every genre, I don't know what you're saying. Gen what? The SEGA of yesterday made top-notch games, especially during the Dreamcast era (their best one imho).

Sega didn't have casual appeal though, they lost it after the Genesis era. That console was just too hardcore and it was also a generation behind in format which caused it to get pirated worse than any other console in recent memory. I mean the Wii's pirating was bad, but the Dreamcasts was just god awful.

Okay. I thought the dreamcast was much more casual-friendly but hey maybe not.
