Pretty much, and we'll always remember the hand holding, much like we'll always remember Navi's annoyance and how OoT lost some of the LttP charm. But we will end up accepting SS into the family when the next one comes out.
Some exceptions to all those in the family of Spirit Tracks (the only DS one I played), as it's clearly of lesser quality than even all the other portable offerings. But that's not the case for SS so its safe from that.
