This is what I meant. You can buy one of these and boom, your hard drive is now also external. Then you could copy it. I don't know if just putting it in your pc would work. I would assume that actually wouldn't work because isn't your computer's OS saved in the hdd? I don't know much about this stuff so I'm barely keeping up as is. I would keep it safe with externals.
