Mario is mainstream, as much as CoD, Uncharted wants to be mainstrem but it cant..lol
Zelda and Metroid are more hardcore-ish than anything on the HD twins...imo

Mario I would dare say is more mainstream than COD of Uncharted within their lifetime. More people know of the name Mario than COD and Uncharted has it far worse than those two even though its concept is highly marketable for a mass crowd when played on easy. The learning curve on a Mario game is nowhere near COD or Uncharted level, plus COD splits its sales annually between three consoles which makes it that much more accessible. Zelda and Metroid being more Hardcore than anything on the HD twins?...no, more creatively and intuitively designed yes. They are on par with the moderate level games on HD consoles. I am sure the core gamer on any console would see Zelda and Metroid as a must have, but Mario can be used to bring non-gamers into the gaming frey which is a large reason non-gaming women and children love it so much and gave them a platform to join. Today children are making the jump from Mario, up to COD and then facing the harsher games the industry has to offer (because their parent obviously dont give a shit about ESRB ratings). Earlier in the generation someone (I believe on this site) said that Nintendo is a platform which prepares gamers for the level of games which exist on the consoles outside of it. I can definitely attest to this because it happened with me. Not to say Microsoft doesn't have games with difficult games, because they do, but they are lower than its competition in numbers with all the first, second and third party added up.
