If Nintendo ever releases a mainstream pokemon game or a pokemon mmo on the Wii U, then I will get the Wii U.
If not, then I have made one mistake with the Wii, won't make the same with the Wii U. The gamepad does not have the same effect on me that the Wiimote had. Most games I play are 3rd party as well as multiplayer and I have doubts that 3rd parties are going to support Wii U after the PS4/720 are released, we will see.
