I think they did.

When Nintendo announced the Gamecube and showed a preliminary lineup, there were 12 games, most of which good, which released within the year Gamecube launched. Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Wave Race, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Smash Bros, Starfox Adventures, NBA Courtside, Disney's Magical Mirror and 3 other's (all exclusive). 4 of those games released with the system or a couple weeks later.

All we know about Wii U is Pikmin 3....might be a launch title.

However is this a bad thing? DS launched with only Super Mario 64 DS and Metroid Prime/Advance Wars came a full year later. Wii launched with a Zelda port, and within the year it launched we saw only 4 major Nintendo titles (Galaxy, Kart, Smash, and Metroid) and a game originally intended for the cube (Super Paper Mario), yet those two systems were the most successful Nintendo systems yet.

It's just odd.....I knew more about the 3DS and Wii U last E3 then I do at this one.

It is a bad thing. Had Nintendo been in a tougher situation (cube, N64), this wouldn't fly. Thankfully the 360 and PS3 were not up to the task this gen, but next gen that might change. I think we lowered the bar for videogames, it's time to raise it back up. Comparing 1st party launch titles between WiiU and cube, or even against the NES, we see a real problem.
