Yeah, discussing it further beyond this would be nothing more than semantics. I do hope there's an option to turn off achievement pop-ups at the very least, because for me it kills the mood in certain games.

Also, the genre I personally find to work so great with achievement popups is JRPGs.

Nothing like seeing that highlight in the top right corner, letting me know that "YES!, Finally beat that fucker in under 1 Minute!!".
