Yes, it actually is. Tell me that the 360 achievement system wouldn't be "unified" if one single 360 game didn't implement achievements. You keep saying that mandatory achievements don't hurt anyone, but they do. They force developers to spend time and resources implementing features they may not have envisioned for their game. Developers should be allowed to make the game they want to make, not be forced to follow certain arbitrary guidelines for their content. |
Would all games you play for 360 be on one unified list? Yes
Would all 360 games be uniformely equipped with achievements? No.
Different ways of looking at it I guess. I just would rather it be mandatory amongst all developers for the console.
Yes, I understand that until 2009, on PS3 it wasn't mandatory, but they didn't launch with achievements, so they added it on later. I'm glad they did though.
While I am not a trophy whore, it is still nice to see my level go up. Been sitting at 11 or 12 for a while now, but I don't play games for platinums, only have (1) and it is for LittleBigPlanet. It takes a while at this point to make it go up, but oh well, shit takes time you know?
I've been a JRPG gamer forever though, so I am into this level up shit.
Anyways, now I am used to it, and everything pretty much has it across all of their games. Due to this it really disappoints me.
Total deal breaker for me? No, but I won't sit here and lie to you and say they would have lost nothing by making it mandatory.
Look at it from a consumer side for a second. Who of us does it not benefit? Certainly shouldn't turn off anyone. As long as it the notifications can be disabled (Whether it be for yours or yours+friends achievements), it should have no cons, only pros.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
