There are some similarities & some differences when looking at the bad business decisions of Sega, compared to the bad business decisions of microsoft or sony. But the truth is, Sony is badly hurt financially & the vita is bombing so far. Microsoft dumped money into 360 until it finally started to make some returns within the past couple years, but are they willing to take a considerable loss on the 720 hardware? once again, bad business 101, and it's only a matter of time before that will end one way or another. Nintendo meanwhile is the only company that focuses on gaming only, they're a gaming company first & foremost, hardware & software. They tend to be the one innovating, and creating software which crosses more demographics from young to old, male to female. They have the best-selling & most well-known franchises in the industry. And they employ a solid business model, where they usually aren't taking a loss on any hardware (unless they need to, as in the 3ds).
The video i posted was from 1990, that was when people first started talking about the "end of nintendo". People thought nintendo was a fad in the 80s, they thought superior hardware would crush them in the 90s (and today). People thought nintendo was done in the n64 days, that they would stop making hardware soon. They thought nintendo was done in the gamecube era, the big boys microsoft and sony, multimedia giants would crush them. Nintendo isn't a perfect company in any way & have made some major mistakes & dumb@$$ moves over the years. But somehow, they're still kicking around, making great software & new approaches to hardware which keep the industry fresh (usually & eventually imitated by rivals). Will see how this generation pans out i guess.
