The only thing I could concede on the "gimmick" call is that 3D doesn't add much to the gameplay itself. But even that's debatable.

But when it comes to the video part of video gaming, the 3D display brings alot to the table, as far as visual improvements go.

For me, as far visual improvements go, I would have liked to see whatever resources went into the 3D implementation reallocated to a stronger system spec-wise instead (as in, without stereoscopic 3D). The ability to create more expansive worlds/more appealing polygonal graphics/better OS level features would appeal to me far more than the stereoscopic effect.

Right now I see it as a system with fewer options and more washed out colours when it comes to 2D games than its rivals (not just PSV, smartphones also) and much weaker polygonal capabilities than its gaming rival (PSV) and very soon most smartphones as well.

Then it really boils down to a matter of preference, Sal, because I actually prefer the RE:R (w 3D)/OoT 3D graphics to the Vita graphics. That's just me personally. However, LBP does look amazing on the Vita. I guess both interest me.
