Was 3D a bad decision for the 3DS?

The only thing I could concede on the "gimmick" call is that 3D doesn't add much to the gameplay itself. But even that's debatable.

But when it comes to the video part of video gaming, the 3D display brings alot to the table, as far as visual improvements go.
