she was the character who suffered most.Your spoiler tags were rather hit-and-miss. Remember, that Fiora is a HUGE spoiler for people at the start of the game, this counts for everyone!
Also, I really liked her. But yeah, it was sad. Poor girl. Dunban suffered more though IMO.
Her strengths really shine in those battles, and any battles against Ether enemies, and any normal UM really (due to incredibly high Ether). Her ability to auto-topple with no break proves invaluable, and she deserves to be in the team for that alone.
Finally, Sharla isn't needed is Reyn isn't in the party. Shulk, Riki and Melia all have healing Arts, and have such a short cooldown (6 seconds for Light Heal!!!) you can afford to lose the dedicated heal for more power. Only useful if you're underlevelled.
