Well can you imagine the opposite?
I can see it now, Iwata appearing in front of investors, a Wii Zapper in each hand making "pew pew" actions at his audience as he declares "Hold on to yer hats fellas, we have so many games for Wii U launch that they're literally comin' out my ass".
If you over-hype you generally fall flat on your face as no reality can possibly live up to the expectation. It's always better to play down the hype.
