i'm not sure nintendo picking at tactic that requires the consumer to buy even more cheap plastic peripherals would "stun the world" as you say. it's pretty much expected.

that said, although i outgrew action figures ages ago but i'm sure it would sell well to the youngins.

Yes. By "stun the world" I mean sell crazy amounts. The Wii didn't hit with many gamers, but you have to admit they were floored that it sold so well. If Skylanders is any indication of a market for this, than pokemon will be able to multiply that success far beyond Spyro.

i'm not even sure it could sell crazy amounts.  you'll lose at least have the audience just due to the extra investment required to play.  unless you think 5-8M is crazy amounts.  i'm sure the profit margin on every action figure sold would be massively high though.

5-8 million is good for a launch game, but considering the added source of revenue the actual impact would be greater than just SW sales. Just like Skylanders. The pokemon audience will or will not except it solely on the quality of the game. If it's awesome they'll play ball. If it's mediocore rehash...who knows, but that hasn't stopped them on the handhelds now has it?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
