"Sony’s PlayStation Vita comes packaged with a wide array of features, though absent from the list, PS1 support seems to be near. Since the Vita’s Japanese release, consumers have repeatedly asked Sony about the lack of PS1 support. Time and time again we were told that the feature is “coming soon” which seemed like it would launch alongside the US Vita release, alas PS1 support still has not been added. A recent post on Reddit, seems to confirm that PS1 support is on the horizon, and should be here soon enough."

"While browsing the EU PSN Store, ryukyu22 stumbled upon Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, a former PS1 title. Curious to see what the game was doing on the store, ryukyu purchased Buzz Lightyear. To his surprise, the game downloaded and the standard bubble appeared on the Vita’s homescreen."

"Tapping the icon brought ryukyu to what appears to be the PS1′s future LiveArea, which seems to resemble the top of a PS1 unit."

"However, after tapping the game’s icon, the Vita displayed this message “The file is corrupt” leading us to believe that this was a mishap on Sony’s part. The same message appeared when ryukyu attempted to accesss the game’s manual.

Although Buzz Lightyear is currently unplayable, this leak does confirm that Sony is working on PS1 support and seems to be in the testing phase at the moment. When they will decide to release a PS1 emulator for the Vita is anybody’s guess, but for now, it’s good to know that the wait is almost over."
