This is not the first series though where Nintendo has gotten a pass for providing a graphical minimum. Games like Battalion Wars were good because the graphics were actually pretty good despite the charming visuals. However, some games like Fire Emblem (Path of Raidance & Radiant Dawn) & Animal Crossing Wii had slapdash efforts in the 3D visuals department. I think the biggest problem from these screenshots are the jagged edges. In 2012...should we really have those? I'm chalking it up to the fact that they are screenshots as opposed to video. Despite all that, I'm still in the camp that assumes it will be awesome regardless but be aware - Nintendo has been releasing A LOT of Mario lately. An NSMB I dont mind due to the massive hardware sales it will bring but still....they are plataeu-ing and getting a little stagnant. In the end, their software rush for the 3DS this year is a positive sign; Wii U development is now the primary focus. 2013 I expect way fewer 1st party games for the handheld, but Nintendo has already secured major 3rd party efforts in the interim. |
But it's not just a graphical minimum; based on the results of the poll here, I'm in the minority, butI happen to think the graphics are pitch-perfect for the overall tone of the game. simple, effective...and the only ones who notice the jaggies are the graphics whores who take screenshots and look REEEEAL close! 99% of the people who play this game won't even notice the graphic infidelity.
