Am I the only one worried about the future of Wii U?

I think theres nothing to worry about.

Nintendo isnt just trying to appeal to the hardcore. Nintendo is aiming at the same market the Wii had plus the hardcore. I dont think the sucess of the system depends on the hardcore, but it depends on that audience wether the system become suitable for hardcore games.
