In terms of the games/genres I play it was disappointing. First-party games have been up to Nintendo's usual high standard but that's really not enough to keep me gaming through a console generation.
Third-party support has been mainly focussed on party games that sell well but I'm not that interested in. Only a few third-party titles really stood out and the the rest (even the ones that reviewed well) ranged from poor to mediocre. I don't think the dated tech helped with some third-party devs trying to make massive HD-like experiences rather than playing to the strengths of the system.
Having said all that the best JRPG I've played the gen was on the Wii (Xenoblade).
