I'll agree with you, to some extent.

The Wii as the generation leader is indeed a failure. It just doesn't have the support expected from a leading console. Simple as that.

As an actual console, though, it was still successful - mostly due to the first party Nintendo games. Not to mention the fact that it introduced motion gaming, if not due to the Wii's sales neither Microsoft or Sony would have attempted to jump on the motion gaming bandwagon themselves.
