1. Deus Ex
Reason: The perfect mix of FPS and RPG gameplay with multiple routes to an objective combined with a superbly deep and involved storyline spanning numerous conspiracy theories. An absolutely amazing single player experience.
Fave moment: Everything on Hong Kong. The perfect Hub area.
2. Half-Life 2 (& Episodes 1&2)
Reason: An amazing campaign that combines hectic FPS gameplay, thought provoking puzzles and some of the best storytelling in video games.
Fave moment: Rushing a building with a squad when there's striders and gunships everywhere or the end of episode 2.
3. Deus Ex Human Revolution
Reason: See the description for Deus Ex. This prequel did a fantastic job of bringing that into the modern age but with a more modern tech and human focussed story.
Fave moment: Taking out troopers by jumping off a building, stunning them on landing with my aug, then killing them with my typhoon aug system.
4. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Reason: Superb open world RPG set in a relatively traditional fantasy setting. The quests are probably some of the best in the series.
Fave moment: Dark brotherhood quest where I kill off each of the victims in a locked house and they each get more and more scared of the killer on the loose.
5. Mass Effect 2
Reason: Brilliant characterisation with heavily improved shooer gameplay from Mass Effect 1 and variety in the main character missions.
Fave moment: Mordin singing, Mordin talking about inter-species relations... etc.
