The boxoffice is full of movies that had unkown actors but still did well. Anyways, just because Litttle Johnny Carter did dismal numbers in America means little. It does need about 375 million worldwide just to break even though. Then to pay for promotion it will need 475-500 million. I cannot multi tab on my phone or I would like to see how many territories it is in. Uncharted should have no problems if the reviews are decent. I think it is more known than Joh carter. I thought for the longest time we were getting something else, had no idea what it was. |
Well it needs to make a lot more then that the movie had a $250 million dollar budget and Disney spend another $100 million on advertising that's $350 million dollars total and since the studios only see about half of the total box office it needs to make about $700 million at the global box office to break even and the best they can hope for is maybe a little over $500 million if their lucky since the box office only going to drop more in the next couple of weeks with better competion like The Hunger Games, Wrath of the Titans, American Reunion, the re-release of Titanic, The Avengers, and many more movies that will get better reviews and are more anticipated.

I would be willing to agree that they need 500 to break even. Double the budget is usually the safe bet I have always been told. They do usually make about 55 percent. Also disney have their own studios and deal in the overseas markets so I think they make out pretty well over there as well. Still I am not delusional. I doubt they will be able to make their money totally back in theaters. DVD and Blu Ray world Wide will easily do this though.

Just checked out box office mojo
The movie is fading fast even though it won the weekend overseas. Still Japan on the way though. It would be lucky to make it to 400 million world wide I think.
Any merchandise that they can sell will be the only saving grace.

I don't see a lot of merchandise for this movie either. Also in order to sell a lot of merchandise a movie usually needs to do decent at the box office also. I don't think that Bu-ray sales will help out that much either. At least it will only be Disney's third bigest bomb of the decade behind Mars Needs Moms and The Alamo.
