Newegg for parts

http://www.anandtech.com/ and http://techreport.com/ for reviews, though there are many other sites I like the depth these ones go into.

And honestly it's really easy to build one these days. Everything slots together, there's not much risk of you breaking things - just follow the motherboard manual.

tomshardware.com is the only place id really add to his list for parts and guides .... for breaking news stuff techpowerup.com

and just a recomendation modular power supplies.   seasonic or corsair (seasonic makes corsairs )

Thanks a bunch.  These sites really help.  I was just wondering if either of you have done any custom builds and if so what are they to give me some ideas.

yes my last build was a

I7-2600k (new chips come out end of april so id wait)

4*4gig corsair ram (upgraded to 4*8 patriot ram which im not a smuch a fan of, but need it for the server)

64gig crucial m4 main drive (just swaped for a 256 samsung 830 needed more room for the server both great)

corsair 650tx bought it on the cheap its a great psu  (did not take my own advise to save a few bucks)

antec 300 illusion (great case to keep things cool but dont spend more than 55 on it)

coolermaster hyper 212+ (get a second fan for it great cooler)

MSI Z68MA-ED55-b3  (was the cheapest main board with everything i wanted been looking at ASrock a lot for the next board)

MSI R6850 Cyclone 1GD5 Power Edition/OC

(love the card but bought it knowing I would sell It to a friend who has the same board this year when I upgrade it at the time it had a 30 rebate and 2 free games )

Samsung  dvd-r/cdr & a Samsung blu-ray player

My  thoughts after my last build

Pay extra for modular power supply … unused cable hanging in the case are a pain.  Don’t but ram with large heat sinks as they will get in the way of your heat sink.

Also do you want to over clock or not? If not save some cahs and get the nonk series

I have my system O.C to 4.2ghz without messing with the voltage, on the corsair ram I O.C d it too 1866 form 1600, was not able to boost the patriot ram cant even get it into xmp mode.

Upcoming parts for me to pick up corsair obsidian 550d (I think)  seasonic platinum 860psu – and a new gpu have not decided yet.

In the late fall if there is a ivybridge for lga 2011 I might pick up a new mobo and cpu so I can boost server ram even further up to 64gigs… if people are still playing on the vgc minecrat server… it will also give me a tower to just tinker with… it pains me not to be able to tinker at will
